27/12/06 Music clips

We've got a few music clips from the documentary courtesy of Hazzy.  Select from the drop down menu to the top right of the page. I particularly like the piano accompaniment to Changes that Gareth was playing on the piano at his parents' house - it was the music playing while Gareth's family were hiding!!!

(You might need to click on the bar to activate it before pressing play again).  We hope to add some more later, so please check back.

24/12/06 Album News

Gareth has got himself a MySpace account, http://www.myspace.com/garethgatesmyspace telling us that Gareth's new label is 19 Recordings Ltd/UMTV.  UMTV being Universal Music.  It also tells us:

After a few years out of the public eye, Gareth has had plenty of time To reflect upon his journey giving him great material to write and record; A process which he has loved getting totally involved in. Working with acclaimed writers such as Sacha Skarbek (James Blunt), Ricky Ross (of Deacon Blue fame) and Pete Gordeno (Depeche Mode), Gareth's new material shows sensitivity, passion, and maturity, as well as fire, power and fun. The album has been produced by Martin Terefe, Jon Hall and Nick Whitecross.

He also says that he's done the photo-shoot for the album sleeve!

30/11/06 Universal Deal

Today's Mirror said of Gareth "He's signed a massive new deal with Universal and we hear his new album will be out next April."  It goes onto say that Gareth has had plenty of input into the album.  We don't know if it's true or not (it was in the 3AM section), but you can read more on the debate here.

29/11/06 Secret gig

Gareth did a secret gig last night for a very lucky few competition winners in London.  He sang a total of 8 new songs, 7 of which he wrote.  He played keyboard for a number of them.  He came back onstage to sing two of the songs again as an encore, then did a meet and greet and signing for fans.  What a star!

Also in attendance were Simon Fuller and Nicky Chapman from 19.  Moliudaima kindly took many great photos (such as the one below) and has shared them with us on the GPG forum.  You can also read her report and those by others who attended here.

More news to follow over the coming days ...

15/10/06 ITV1 documentary

Saturday's newspapers were filled with articles about Gareth's forthcoming documentary.  According to an ITV spokesman.

"This prime-time footage will show the impacts and consequences that fame thrusts upon artists hoping to survive successfully within the pressures of the music industry, and will also showcase some of Gareth's new music as he prepares to re-launch back into the spotlight to do what he loves most."

Some of the articles appear to have forgotten that Gareth released more than one single, but all the more reason for a documentary to set the record straight!

13/10/06 Definitely back this year!

The news page on ggates has been updated to say we should expect to see Gareth back on tv this year, with an album to follow soon! (click to enlarge)

20/08/06 Gareth's own Galway report

Now posted on the Irish McGuire site.

It's a great report and I recommend reading it in full, but I particularly like Gareth's "final thought":

Stood there on Saturday afternoon, listening to the new students speak so eloquently was indescribable. A phrase that someone once said came flooding back to me; The new students didn’t get down off the soap box, they got up from it. And that summed it up for me. We don’t have to accept everything we’re given in life. Apathy stops us from moving forward. We do, however, have a choice. You make that choice. And you take ownership and responsibility of whatever decision you make. Because remember, only you can make a difference.

Please also read the report from one of the the local organisers.

19/08/06 Article in The Star and on Digital Spy

Apparently:  A source told the Daily Star: "Gareth's been working hard, mainly recording in Scotland as well as a few tunes in London. He's written several of the songs and played guitar and drums on many of the tracks and the team are very happy with his album. *Link to the Digital Spy news article*

16/08/06 Michael Hay's McGuire Blog

There is much gratitude today over on the GPG discussion boards towards Michael Hay who wrote a great little report of his experiences on last weekend's course in Galway on his blog.  You can also see the following picture in full!

Gareth Gates McGuire Galway soap-box public speaking

"This was his first real test as he was instructing on his own and he passed with flying colours, and then some ...  On the plane over we were chatting about what it feels like to instruct a course, being part in the changing of other people's lives.  It's a great feeling to be able to do such a thin and it's also a great feeling to be able to put back into the programme waht you've gotten out of it yourself."  Extract from Michael's account.

 16/07/06 McGuire Programme, Galway

Congratulations to Gareth who is scheduled to instruct on the McGuire Intensive Course in Galway, next month.

10/06/06 Gareth's message on ggates

Gareth has left us a message within the news section of www.ggates.co.uk.  Click on the following image to read it for yourself!

Message to fans May 2006 Gareth Gates

There are also a few rumours floating about - one is that Gareth is working on a documentary.  Read more on the possibilities on the GPG discussion boards.

21/10/05 Gareth is NOT married

Some papers and magazines have been reporting that a 'pal' of Gareth's had told them that there was a new Mrs Gates, and that he and Suzanne had been married at a secret ceremony in London recently.  As is often the case in this sort of situation, the 'pal' was telling porkies.  BMG confirmed he isn't married, posting the following statement on www.ggates.co.uk

Lately there have been a few Gareth rumours circulating suggesting that he and Suzanne have got married.  Whilst they're still very happy together, these rumours are not true and they are not engaged, so we thought we should let you know officially through his site.

So there!

If that's not enough, Gareth's been papped with his keyboard!

For more photos from then, and in a taxi, read the GPG boards.

8/10/05 Gareth in Glasgow - rumoured to be working with Ricky Ross

Gareth has been spotted out and about in Glasgow by a number of sources last weekend and the days leading up to it, but mainly in pubs and clubs!!!

Initial thoughts were that he was attending the McGuire Open Day, which was held in Glasgow on Saturday 1st October, but a couple of websites are saying he's been writing with Ricky Ross - the lead singer from Deacon Blue.  Read more on that in GPG chat.

We know for sure that Gareth was at The Shed nightclub last Sunday (2nd) as there is photographic evidence on their website! Read more about that in GPG news.

Here's Gareth having a bit of fun with a bull!

20/11/04 Songwriting news

Gareth confirmed previous rumours that he'd been working with Judie Tzuke by singing a song written by the pair at the Christmas Lights switching on ceremony in Bradford.  It is called Christmas and I'm Home Read and you can read the lyrics and hear the music here.  The version playing now is from the lights, with Graham Kearns on guitar.  Graham has worked with Judie too.

30/10/04 Bradford Christmas Lights

Gareth will be doing the lights on November 18th in Centenary Square, Bradford.  He will be singing a 'short festive set' as part of the celebrations, which start from 5pm.  It will be broadcast on local radio station The Pulse.
